Look in the mirror, look at your whole body, and decide what you want to improve. Try to avoid improving your appearance for others, and focus on what makes you happy. To start, here are some realistic ways you can enhance your appearance in the new year.
Sometimes, your skin may need a break from makeup or other things that make your pores become clogged. If you notice yourself breaking out a lot lately, try going a couple days without putting on a heavy foundation or concealer. Additionally, try to limit alcohol ingestion, as the high amounts of sugar in it tends to make the skin break out.
Invest in a good skin care routine by regularly cleaning your face, exfoliating one to three times a week, and apply moisturizer one to two times a day. Don’t forget to apply it to your neck and bosom, too. For under-eye concerns, you can apply a good eye cream before bed every night and under your makeup during the day. Finally, don't forget to put on sunscreen (even in the winter) to protect the skin’s pigment cells.
It’s hard to spend time each day taking care of your body when you have a busy schedule. Taking care of your body, however, is one of the best ways to enhance your appearance -- it’s all about the self-love. You can take care of your body by eating healthy foods rich in nutrients and avoiding too many carbohydrates, which often are rich in sugar. Make sure you’re drinking enough water each day. Staying hydrated improves your skin and allows your body to function properly. Additionally, taking care of your body means getting enough sleep each night, or at least seven hours.
Invest in an item that makes you happy, whether that be a high-end purse, a comfy pair of shoes, or a cute hat. Having a few nice accessories to go with your everyday outfits will enhance your appearance in any setting.
Non-essential businesses like nail salons were closed for several months this year, disrupting people’s nail care. If you have fallen out of your nail routine or can’t get them professionally done, do them yourself! Your nails are another one of your accessories and enhance your image when done. You can do your nails yourself by painting them, buying a DIY acrylic, dip, or gel set, or even using nail stickers. DIY nail products have come a long way in the last few years, making it easier than ever to do them yourself.
Practicing good hygiene should be a part of your self-care routine every day. It’s important for both your health and self image. Wear clean clothes every day, even when it’s hard to change out of your pajamas when working from home. Brush your teeth twice a day, even if you don’t plan on leaving your house. Brush your hair and keep it clean. Even if you don’t plan on leaving your home, styling it will help you feel better about yourself and even improve your selfies!
